At LAC, the safety of our employees, sub-contractors and customers is paramount.
The company has a stated goal of zero injuries and zero tolerance for accidents. LAC has a superb safety record and passed 5.7 million lost-time injury-free hours in April 2017. A highly effective system has been developed which includes extensive training of our management team, supervisors, safety representatives and other employees. Full PPE (personal protective equipment) is issued to each employee upon joining the company and is checked and upgraded regularly, in order to minimise the hazards of working in potentially high-risk areas.
Ongoing training sessions are conducted for our staff and a dedicated Safety representative is allocated to each site, fully trained in all aspects of health and safety.
All employees and sub-contractors undergo a full, annual, medical examination to ensure that the workforce is fully fit to operate LAC equipment and heavy machinery in compliance with the Mines Health & Safety Act.
Random blood pressure and alcohol testing is conducted and employees have access to local medical clinics, as well as mine-operated medical facilities on site. Regular health education programmes are undertaken, with a primary focus on HIV / AIDS awareness.
