Magnetite handling is a core business, with some 18,000 tons per day loaded for the Palabora Mining Company alone. Magnetite is loaded and hauled from drying dams, and block trains are loaded. In addition, LAC handles up to 200,000 tons of phosphate material and 100,000 tons of magnetite per month for Foskor. LAC also handles 160,000 tons of Foskor magnetite for KBH.
The Materials Handling department of LAC has vast experience of handling a full range of smelter and by-product materials. These include, but are not limited to, slag, silica and bottoms. Copper concentrate is moved to and from the sheds. Crusher reverts are crushed, screened and sorted. CAT 966 front end loaders are used in conjunction with the LAC fleet of Bell B20, B30 and B40 ADTs for current materials handling contracts.
LAC has the experience and capacity to deal with all types of materials handling by utilising its skilled personnel, superbly maintained machinery and professional approach to ensure that deadlines are met or exceeded.
